The beta and gamma proteins synthesized in the cytosol associate to form stable beta-gamma dimers. The dimer is prenylated by the appropriate protein prenyltransferase, then translocated to the microsomal membrane by associating with the binding protein. The prenylated protein completes its processing, proteolysis and methylation, while associated with the microsomal membrane. The mature protein is targeted to the plasma membrane, its final destination. |
