Botanical name: Fragaria sp.

Origin: The genus has about 20 to 30 species found in the north temperate region. Two species, F. vesca (alpine strawberry or frais de bois) and F. moschata (musk strawberry), are native to Europe. Two species of the western hemisphere (F. virginia and F. chiloensis) accidently crossed in about 1750 and the number of chrosomes doubled to form F. ananassa This species is the most common species in cultivation

Uses: Fruit eaten fresh, dried, and preserved in jam.
