Alocasia brisbanensis (Bailey) Domin

This is an endemic species of Australia. It is found in "Queensland and New South Wales, in tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate rainforest, wet open sites, predominantl at low altitudes, [and] generally on pleiotrophic soils." It can become a large plant with a stem having a diameter of up to 13 cm, petioles to ca. 1.1 m, and a blade that is about 0.74 m (an estimate from the line drawing). (A. Hays. 1991. The genus Alocasia (Araceae) in Australasia. Blumea 35: 499-545.)

This plant was one of two that was collected from a population at the edge of a tropical rain forest near Yungaburra, Queensland. Upon returning home, I noticed that the population was not as homogeneous as I originally thought. The photographs on the next page show the difference between the two plants.
