COURSE TITLE: Activity Analysis and Assessment

COURSE NUMBER: REC 314

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A three credit course designed to present the rationale, procedural methods for and applications of assessment in Therapeutic Recreation. Additionally, the course will address the process of activity/task analysis. This will be accomplished by explaining and conducting analyses on selected activities/tasks while emphasizing goal-oriented treatment and individual functional levels.

  1. To understand the role of assessment in Therapeutic Recreation. (8.15)

  3. To examine assessment techniques, procedures and selected instruments utilized in Therapeutic Recreation and in other disciplines as well.
  4. To understand and practice utilization of therapeutic recreation assessment instruments for various facilities. (8.16) (8.34)
  5. To learn and successfully utilize the process of activity/task analysis.
  6. To review the normal developmental stages from infancy through adulthood. (7.07)
  7. To apply the four functional domains (physical, social, cognitive and affective) in relation to the treatment needs and participation demands of the client. (8.20)
  8. To analyze activities/tasks in the different areas of recreation/leisure and daily living skills. (8.20)
  9. To learn and practice the skills of establishing rapport, observating patient behavior and communicating effectively in order to successfully conduct an assessment.
