| This is me not being a historian, but instead rowing with my old Pittsburgh teammates at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in August of 2005. I'm sitting up front (really in back in relation to the boat.) From bow the rowers are: Susan (bow), Jamie (2 seat), Jill (3 seat), and me (stroke). Our coxswain, Sonya, took the picture. | |||||||||
Hello and welcome to my home page. I started teaching at Virginia Weslyan College in the Fall of 2005. My teaching specialties are 20th Century United States, African American history, women's history, and the history of consumer culture. Click on "My Courses" below for links to current and upcoming course sites, including my new Winter Session class on New Deal arts programs. My current research deals with African American women and the beauty industry during the middle decades of the 20th Century. My book, Style and Status: Selling Beauty to African American Women, 1920 to 1975 is due to be published in the Spring of 2007 by the University Press of Kentucky. Click on "My Reseach" below for more information. As the photograph above suggests, I am an avid rower, and am hoping to start rowing at VWC. Click on the link below for information on that as well as links about rowing in general. If you have any questions about any of this, or just want to chat, drop me an email, or come by my office during the school year |
